Visitors to Sonoma County can enjoy all that the county has to offer by having fully accessible experiences both before and during their stay. Trip planning can be done by video phone with direct communication with a signing “concierge” who can help to craft a customized itinerary and arrange for fully accessible experiences. Taya Levine, fluent in American Sign Language and a resident of Healdsburg, has created an offering of typical recreational and vacation activities with the goal of sign language users having a commensurate experience of any hearing visitor. Communication barriers are eliminated by providing access through technology and by facilitating wine tasting, culinary classes, kayaking/canoeing, hiking, redwood picnics, cycling– whatever the visitor may be interested in seeing and doing, by accompanying visitors as their signing guide.

Tomorrow’s Leaders Today (TLT) is a community education and leadership skill training program for students entering their junior year in the Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Windsor, Cloverdale and Petaluma school districts in Sonoma County. Each month, successful applicants spend a day with community leaders and experts visiting sites where they practice leadership skills, problem solving techniques, and teamwork. The program year kicks off with an orientation for the parents, and an overnight retreat where participants are introduced to each other, and to the community. Throughout the academic year, students take part in eight program days exploring current issues, challenges, and opportunities in: natural resources and agriculture, government, health/education, human services, planning and development, criminal justice, business and tourism, and media and communications skills. TLT’s goal is to bring young leaders into active community roles that will continue throughout their adult lives, and it is sanctioned by the Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg, Cloverdale and Petaluma school districts, and by Santa Rosa Junior College.
